@TheThunderChimp Actually there IS an original score that Buster himself would have heard when the film came out. However, the problem is most of the music itself is lost or incredibly hard to find. Back in the 1920s cue sheets were created to give small orchestras or silent musicians a guide to underscore movies. The General had one as well. The only people I'm aware of that do this now is Rick Benjamin's Paragon Ragtime Orchestra. They're the only ones to play the ORIGINAL score.

@MrWhiteops There is no "original" soundtrack. The film was silent, and originally, someone played piano in the room where the film was played. For example, he would play faster music if it was in an action part. The one you remember is just one of the versions that have been adapted for modern days, to enjoy at your house. If this music is inapropriate, it is not because it is not the original soundtrack, it is because it is simply mischosen.

el general wasn't the first. super nandi was the first. back in the 70's. Since panama has many jamaicans that came to build the canal they brought their music and culture which is why panama was the first to sing reggaeton.

Yes El General was the first to sing reggeaton. But all El General did was copy Capleton and Shabba Ranks. Reggeaton is Jamaican dancehall in Spanish. Now it has more hiphop influences. The reggea in reggeaton should give you a clue who the respect should go to. But no worries culture in the Carribean has no boundaries and belongs to everybody.

@DonFarshido lol. When I first read that, I thought to myself "Mozart and Beethoven are basically the same". Since for a while I've become great fans of both Chaplin and Keaton. I've even read the Buster Keaton Autobiography and currently half way through Chaplins Autobiography. I now can see that they both have very different and unique styles. Hahaha i read in a keaton biography that all in the same day, Keaton had part of his finger cut off if i remember, and he was literally pulled out of a window by a storm. It was hilarious. I love Buster Keaton. He, Chaplin, and the Marx Bros are probably my favorites :)

Just watched The General and really enjoyed it. I agree however with the commenter below - I wouldn't compare Chaplin to Keaton, just too different.
